Music at Brouillet

Welcome to Music! Students have many amazing opportunities to participate in music at Brouillet Elementary. All students attend music classes twice a week for 30 minutes. During this music time students are exposed to a variety of classroom instruments, learn to read and write their own music, and work together to create, perform, and respond to music from across the globe. Students in 5th and 6th grade also have the opportunity to join band or orchestra during the school day in addition to their general music instruction. Lastly, students in 4th-6th grade have the opportunity to sing in Choir, an extracurricular activity that takes place before school. We are growing great musicians at Brouillet!

Why Music?

Did you know that music is the only activity that activates both hemispheres of the brain simultaneously?  It’s true!  Music learning at an early age creates pathways in our brain that would otherwise remain dormant.  It also releases serotonin and dopamine: the happiness hormones.

Music reinforces skills and knowledge from the general education classroom!  In music, your students learn math (addition, fractions, how to make a whole), reading (tracking skills, comprehension, fluency), social studies (world history and culture, foreign language), and science (anatomy of the ear and respiratory system, sound waves and vibrations).

In addition, we focus on life skills that help your students become productive members of their community, such as teamwork, compassion, patience, perseverance, creative problem solving, stress management, and responsibility.
